Gateway to Science Receives Grant from Impact Foundation
Posted by: | Comments
Gateway to Science has received a grant in the amount of $10,000 from Impact Foundation to support a comprehensive marketing and development plan to increase community awareness of its gallery and programs. As awareness grows, Gateway to Science gallery and programs will benefit more students and families in the community and region. Building a greater foundation of community support will provide the funds necessary for greater outreach by Gateway to Science to our community.
Impact Foundation, with support from Dakota Medical and Alex Stern Family Foundations, was launched in 2004 to build the capacity of nonprofits, businesses and individuals to maximize their societal impact. Impact is partnering with the Bush Foundation to provide training, technical assistance and resources to nonprofits throughout the region. Over 300 nonprofits have participated in the Impact Institute’s capacity building programs, and over $2.2 million has been donated to nonprofits through www.impactgiveback.org.
We are grateful for this generous support!

Sun-sized Fun for Everyone!
Posted by: | CommentsBecause the weather in Grand Forks did not permit the use of UND’s observatory (too cold for the instruments), Tony Musumba, Physics Professor from BSC, gave an amazing “plan B” presentation on the ins and outs of astronomy, enhanced by many amazing celestial photographs. The indoor planetarium was also very popular, where guests learned about constellations as they were projected on a dome-shaped ceiling. These, plus the hands-on astronaut activities, stargazing in the parking lot, live violin music, a visit by the Snow Queen, and refreshments, ensured there was something for everyone. If you missed it, watch for “Winter Wonderland” again next year, plus some new astronomy events in-the-making!

Don’t Miss “Winter Wonderland”!
Posted by: | CommentsI’m so excited for “Winter Wonderland” this year, which will be held on Friday, January 21, 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. I love astronomy, and that’s what this event is all about. We have so much planned, and so much of it is brand new! Even if it’s cloudy, there will still be plenty to do indoors.

The most exciting addition to this year’s event is our partnership with UND’s Department of Space Studies. UND has several large telescopes, which are housed in observatories outside of Grand Forks. During “Winter Wonderland”, Tony Musumba, Physics Professor at BSC, will be remotely operating one of UND’s telescope observatories from within the comforts of Gateway to Science! Professor Musumba will project the telescope images on a screen for all visitors to see. How cool is that!
