Meet Our Summer Visitor!
Posted by: | CommentsGateway to Science proudly welcomes Krypto, a bearded dragon, who will be visiting us this summer. Krypto is on loan to us from the Riedman family.
Here are a few facts about our visitor:
- Krypto is approximately 5 years old, he has a life span of up to 8 years.
- He prefers live worms and crickets for his meals but might try fruit.
- He could get up to 25mph, but our Krypto is a bit lazy and may not even reach 10mph!
- The average bearded dragon can grow from 18 inches to 20 inches.
- They are called bearded dragons because of their “beard” that puffs up when they are threatened or “showing off.”
Thanks to the Riedman family for sharing your special friend with us and welcome to Krypto!
Another Fun Family Event!
Posted by: | CommentsThe Sound of Science was a great success as nearly 100 visitors explored the way sound waves move and work to create the sounds we hear.
Jim McMahon (pictured at left), local educator and musician, brought a musical flair to this annual event.
Visitors also made music with their hands, Franklin’s Armonica (think water!), checked out our Sound Studio, made their own tambourine, tried the slinky sound wave, rang church bells (shown at right), used their teeth to hear, made water chime, talked on the telephone cans, and went “Ahoy!” That’s alot of sound!
Fun was had by all, visitors and volunteers alike! We are already looking forward to next year to “hear” what is new at the Sound of Science! Hope to see you there!
Mark your calendars for Gateway to Science’s next free family event – Family Rocket Day on Saturday, July 16, 12:30-3:30 p.m.

Posted by: | CommentsGateway to Science is scheduled to hold its annual Sound of Science event on Saturday, June 11 from 1PM-4PM. The Sound of Science is a FREE FAMILY EVENT that uses hands-on activities together with special displays and special guests to teach about how sound is created. Due to the major flooding issues that Bismarck and Mandan are experiencing, we are looking for community input as to whether this family event should be held as scheduled or postponed to a later date.
