Our 2011 Space Camp ended with a blast! The kids finished their week with their own rocket launch using their very own rockets! They spent the week learning about different types of rocketry, building rockets and even touring a Star Lab! Plus they spent time exploring the Gateway to Science gallery. Our week ended with their own engine-propelled rockets being blasted into space for an audience of family and friends! Thanks again to our instructor Kim Schultz for an awesome week! What a Blast!

More Launching Fun to Come!

If you enjoyed the fireworks this weekend but didn’t quite get enough launching fun, mark your calendar for “Family Rocket Day” on Saturday, July 16, 12:30 – 3:30. It’s another great FREE, family event at Gateway to Science. We’ll have volunteers on hand to help you build and launch many types of rockets.
My favorite is the air pressure rockets. You’ll get to design a rocket from your own imagination, including cone and fin design, as well as decorations. You won’t believe how high they fly! And they’re free!
We’ll be launching and building many other types of rockets too. The Up Aerospace Spaceloft rocket kits can be purchased (and launched) for only $8 for members and $10 for nonmembers. All other activities are free. Anyone under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Come anytime during the event to join the fun!

Happy Independence Day!

Gateway to Science will be CLOSED on Monday, July 4, so that our staff can celebrate Independence Day with their loved ones.
However, Gateway to Science will be OPEN with regular gallery hours of noon to 5:00 p.m. this week Friday and Saturday (July 1 & 2), and then again on Tuesday, July 5, noon – 7:00 p.m. Explore the hands-on exhibits with your extended family; it’s fun for all ages! Who could resist Dancing Water (a bowl that splashes water into the air), the Bottle Rocket, or the carnival-type Mirror Image exhibits? Come check it out!
