Expecting company this weekend? Bring them to Gateway to Science!
Posted by: | Comments
Gateway to Science has often been referred to as “the best kept secret in Bismarck.” Maybe everyone hasn’t experienced the unique, hands-on fun of discovery in our exhibits gallery yet. Maybe they’ve missed our free family events. Maybe having “science” in our name makes people think that the gallery is only for students. Whatever the reason, it’s time to share the “secret” of Gateway to Science with your friends and family.
I encourage families looking for a fun place to spend time together to stop in and experience the excitement for themselves. Visitors will be pleasantly surprised by the variety of interactive exhibits, including “Use Your Brain,” “Simple Machines,” “H20,” “Light & Color” and too many others to mention. While you’re here, don’t forget to check out our Painted Lady Butterfly habitat and say hello to Krypto, our visiting Bearded Dragon.

Calling potential Center Guides!
Posted by: | Comments
Gateway to Science is looking for applicants to be Center Guides in our gallery! This can be a great part time job for high school or college students-but please keep in mind that applicants must be at least 16 years old. Where else can you have a job that involves feeding butterflies, building rockets, and being hands-on with all of our exhibits, all while wearing our popular and stylish labcoat? If this sounds interesting, you can find our application online. Completed applications can be dropped off at Gateway to Science or e-mailed to Meredith. Perhaps we’ll see you in a labcoat soon!

Student contest opportunities
Posted by: | Comments
As our school-aged scientists get more involved in their new academic year, I want to let them know about some scientific contest opportunities they may be eligible for. There are two NASA-sponsored microgravity contests for students in grades 5-12, DIME & WING. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has an essay contest, also for 5th-12th graders, about being a Cassini Scientist for a Day. The American Museum of Natural History has a Young Naturalist Awards program for students in grades 7-12. Visit the linked websites for information about these contests and their eligibility and submission requirements. These are just a few of the contests that are out there – interested students should talk to their science teachers for information about other competition opportunities!
