One HOT Sun!By
While some of us may have thought the 4th of July was a HOT day, try living on the sun! The sun goes through an 11-year solar weather cycle, and we are currently reaching our peak of this Solar Cycle 24. One particular sunspot region, called Active Region 1515, has shot off 12 solar flares since Tuesday. Those are some HOT fireworks! On July 5th, the latest solar flare from this region ended up creating minor radio blackouts on Earth. While the solar flares are expected to peak in 2013, this year is still quite active for these super hot storms. In fact, scientists are keeping an eye on a sunspot that they say is slowly rotating towards Earth; however what that means for us here is still undetermined. Read more on MSNBC’S report.
