			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://gatewaytoscience.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/gears.jpg"><img src="http://gatewaytoscience.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/gears.jpg" alt="" title="gears" width="189" height="204" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-5170" /></a> <strong><a href="http://gatewaytoscience.org/" title="Gateway to Science" target="_blank">Gateway to Science</a></strong> and the ND Society of Professional Engineers, Chapter 3 will host the annual WIDGET Contest and Explore Engineering on <strong>Tuesday, February 7</strong> beginning at <strong>5:30PM</strong>. <strong>Both events  are FREE </strong>and will be held at the <strong>Bismarck Career Academy located at 1221 College Drive</strong>.<br />
<strong><a href="http://gatewaytoscience.org/events/explore-engineering/" title="Explore Engineering" target="_blank">Explore Engineering</a></strong> is a fun and exciting hands-on engineering event for elementary age students. Children can design and build their own creations at each of the the stations. Students will get their creative juices flowing like real engineers!<br />
The <strong><a href="http://gatewaytoscience.org/events/widget-contest/" title="WIDGET Contest" target="_blank">WIDGET Contest</a></strong> will commemorate National Engineers Week. Nine teams of local middle and high school students will follow their own original designs to build machines that will achieve this year&#8217;s challenge &#8211; to knock over a pyramid of cups. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. The public is invited to watch the competition and cheer for their favorite team!</p>

In his daily work, he is on the management team overseeing the construction and operation of the most complicated technical project in history: the International Space Station. He is the author of three popular books; <em>My Grandfathers&#8217; Clock</em>, <em>My Stepdaughter&#8217;s Watch</em> and <em>The Parallel Bang</em>.</p>
<p>Dr. Bacon&#8217;s presentation is <strong>FREE </strong>and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Visiting Scientists Series, which includes representatives from Bismarck State College, Bismarck Public Schools, Gateway to Science, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, St. Mary’s Central High School, USGS, The University of Mary, and the ND Society of Professional Engineers.</p>

Prizes this year are $200 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd place, and $75 for 3rd place. Do you think you could be a contender? This year&#8217;s task is to knock over a pyramid of three cups. The three cups must be in a standard pyramid formation to start, and all three cups must be knocked off their rims by an impact, not just moved or pulled apart. Teams can register and pick up their box of materials, including more specific guidelines for the contest, between January 5 and January 25.</p>
