Gateway to Science was chosen by the Krolls Diner Bismarck Marathon to benefit from the 2011 event held in September. On a cold and drizzly day, Gateway to Science staff and volunteers staffed a water stop to provide relief for the 1,800 runners and walkers who participated in the event.

The vision of the Bismarck Marathon is to encourage active lifestyles. Recently, I was honored to join the Marathon committee for a luncheon at which checks were distributed to Gateway to Science and four other worthy charities, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Bismarck/Mandan, YMCA Strong Kids, Dakota Boys & Girls Ranch and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. We appreciate the support!

Aaron Bank, Two-time Chef Showdown Champion

Gateway to Science proudly announces the winner of the Einstein on Wine 2011 Chef Showdown…Aaron Bank! It was a tough battle for the two time champion title, between Aaron and his father, Mort Bank.

The guests were hotly divided as to who would come out the champion, there were definite favorites coming into the showdown. Guests were talking about the dishes before they even made it to the table as the aromas from the kitchen were wafting through the Frances Leach High Prairie Arts & Science Complex.

We thank you for joining us in our evening of fun and food and wine. We are already looking forward to next year’s showdown!

The Visiting Scientist Series is excited to welcome Dr. Robert Bates, professor emeritus of Food Science at the University of Florida, to Bismarck. Dr. Bates is an expert on the science of brewing and will be presenting a FREE public presentation this Thursday at Bismarck State College – National Energy Center of Excellence in the Basin Electric Auditorium Room 304 (1200 Schafer Street). The topic will be “The Chemistry and Alchemy of Brewing” and the presentation will start at 7 pm. While he is in Bismarck, Dr. Bates will also be presenting on the science of food at the University of Mary and local high schools. He is also considered an oenologist, or expert in the study of wine making, and he will be appearing at Gateway to Science as a special guest at Einstein on Wine this Friday (it’s not too late to get tickets!). Please join us and learn from an expert at the public presentation or Einstein on Wine!
