Plants

Recommended for Grades 5-7+

Seed plants are the most advanced type of plant on earth. This is a two-week trunk on the study of seed plants. Students will identify certain leaves and leaf types, grow corn and beans, learn how plants reproduce and watch several videos.

Sub-unit 1 involves the study of cone producing plants through the use of a video, cone samples and worksheets.

Sub-unit 2 uses leaf samples to teach students how to identify various leaves based on their characteristics.

Sub-unit 3 uses bean and corn seedlings started in class to study the difference between monocot and dicot flowering plants and plant growth. Videos and transparencies also aid in the instruction.

Sub-unit 4 involves learning the fruit types by use of transparencies, samples and worksheets. Seed dispersal and the coconut are also discussed.
