Water Chemistry

Recommended for Grades 7+

The Water Chemistry trunk uses a variety of instruments and methods for measuring the chemical quality of water. It emphasizes good laboratory procedures and safety. This trunk can serve as an exciting introduction to the field of chemistry with simplified explanation of the methods and procedures. It can also be used in an advanced placement high school chemistry class as a tool for examining many chemistry principles in depth. The pH, conductivity, hardness and alkalinity of water is measured as well as the concentrations of total dissolved solids, residual chlorine, iron, chloride, fluoride, nitrate, phosphate and sulfate. Water samples may be “softened” and retested to show the effects of water softening.
