Annie Beck

As a STEM Educator, Annie brings hands-on educational experiences to scientists young and old all across our state. Her goal is to inspire a love of learning and curiosity about the world around us.

Impacting the Mission

Annie has planned and implemented workshops, STEMzones, camps, and clubs onsite and across the state. She has also designed new STEMzones and workshops, along with helping to obtain new resources like our giant map of North Dakota’s watersheds and our Forward Education Climate Action robotics kits. Annie’s passion for the environment helped immensely while she played a vital role in the development of the Outdoor Explorium. Now, as North Dakota’s STEM Research Ambassador for the Society for Science, Annie is excited to support middle and high school teachers and students dive deeper into science research and to inspire the next generation of STEM professionals.

Experience and Expertise

Annie was a formal elementary education teacher for almost 20 years before coming to NDGTS. Through her experience teaching in public and private schools in multiple states and abroad, she has seen the impact of projects and hands-on learning in classrooms. These experiences led her to pursue a Master’s in Experiential Education from Minnesota State University, Mankato. From designing projects to working with the individual social and emotional needs of students, she enjoys using this knowledge and passion in informal education.

Outside of NDGTS

Annie loves learning and exploring! Traveling, reading, working with experts in their fields, and spending time outdoors are her favorite ways to learn, in addition to volunteering with a wide variety of groups and organizations.

Favorite Exhibit, Event, or Experiment

As part of the team overseeing the development of the Outdoor Explorium, the space tops the list for Annie! She is excited about the opportunity to use this amazing space to help our visitors learn about the wonders of our natural environment and the importance of being good stewards of these gifts. She is also excited about the opportunities for community connections that it brings from birders and gardeners to local leaders in engineering!
