Help Foster a 21-Century Workforce
STEM is playing a larger role in the future of work and advancements have resulted in the need for a more inventive and resourceful workforce. STEM concepts connect to real-world experiences better with hands-on exploration. Students need to touch, play, explore, and invent in real life, in real-time. Introducing kids to STEM at an early age through hands-on experiences increases their interest in pursuing STEM careers later on.
Support Programming in STEM
In November 1994, Bismarck became the home of the first and only hands-on science center in North Dakota. Since then, NDGTS has established a reputation as an educational resource for the community and state. Between opening the new location in March of 2023 and the end of the year, the science center welcomed over 100,000 community members to the gallery and through programming like Gateway to Science on the Go, Preschool Discovery Hour, and After-school and Summer Camps.
Gateway to Science on the Go
On the Go travels North Dakota offering engaging, hands-on learning experiences for K-12 students in science, technology, engineering, and math that cultivates interest in STEM and develops 21st Century skills. In 2023, Gateway to Science on the Go reached over 20,000 students statewide and traveled to every geographical region of the state.
Preschool Discovery Hour
Preschool Discovery Hour is a FREE-to-the-public program where children and caregivers can participate in hands-on activities and explore concepts together. Little learners explore themes that allow them to stack, build, problem solve, and create.
After-school and Summer Clubs
After-school and summer clubs are open to children ranging from first to ninth grade. NDGTS educators partner with STEM professionals from local businesses to lead hands-on activities, share their experiences and passion with students, and provide an insight into their jobs. Career exploration is an integral part of every program, but particularly camps for middle school students.
