Play can give children a way to express emotions, build resilience, and connect with others during difficult experiences. In recognition of Children’s Grief Awareness Month, North Dakota’s Gateway to Science is participating in Healing with Play throughout November to highlight the role of play in navigating grief and loss.
Healing with Play is an initiative that emphasizes the importance of play in helping children process challenging experiences and find meaningful ways to express themselves.
Exploring Through Play
Throughout November, Gateway to Science will offer a variety of hands-on experiences that encourage children to explore, create, and learn at their own pace. These include:
- Hands-On STEM Activities: Interactive opportunities to explore science through creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving.
- Sensory-Friendly Resources: Tools and spaces designed to accommodate different sensory needs throughout the science center.
- Sensory Hour: A dedicated program featuring sensory-friendly elements throughout the gallery, giving visitors more ways to engage with exhibits and STEM activities.
Recognizing Children’s Grief Awareness Month
Through Healing with Play, Gateway to Science joins organizations raising awareness of childhood grief and the value of play-based experiences during difficult times. The initiative also reflects the many ways learning can happen at a science center, from exploring scientific concepts to finding opportunities for creativity, connection, and personal growth.
