2023 camp weeks for grade 7-9 campers are:
Session Filled June 5 – 9: Career & Technical Ed Exploration Camp @ BPS Career Academy (1221 College Drive) – Campers take a test drive of some of the areas of study available at the Career Academy including Building Systems, Robotics, Aviation, Drones, Auto Technology, Agriculture, and more! Career & Technical Ed exploration allows middle school students an opportunity to see new career paths, and try them in a fun, supportive setting. It helps them gain employability skills, technical knowledge, and the training they need to thrive in today’s – and tomorrow’s – workforce.
Registration Closed June 26 – 30: Environmental Science @ Ducks Unlimited (2525 River Road) – Do you like being outside? Do you like digging in and figuring things out? This camp is for you! Campers will investigate the connections between the earth’s ecosystems and develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues. Environmental science activities include sampling and testing waters, dating trees by circumference and species, creating a biosphere, land navigation and orienteering, making biodegradable soy plastic, identifying animal tracks, and much more!
Session Filled July 10 – 14: Technology & Robotics @ NDGTS Frank Koch Lab (1600 Canary Ave) – Five days of fast-paced fun! This week guides campers through the basics and beyond of coding, design, and computational thinking. Make party lights to understand electrical circuits and switches. Create a safe sock for astronauts to wear in space. Design and create 3-D prints. “Fly” a plane with flight simulators and VR goggles. Build and code robots to complete missions and solve challenges. And more!
Session Filled July 24 – 28: Our Human Body @ NDGTS Frank Koch Lab (1600 Canary Ave) – Don’t let the topic fool you. This will be a fun week of pre-med AND forensics, all related to the human body. Solve a crime learning how the body leaves clues to detectives. Learn pre-med techniques such as phlebotomy and suturing techniques. Learn how your body reacts to different levels of physical activity. How is your body different when in space? All of this, along with some engineering challenges, creates a week of the human body experience.
Career exploration is an integral part of all of our out-of-school time programs, especially so for our middle school camps. STEM professionals from local businesses partner with North Dakota’s Gateway to Science educators to lead hands-on activities, share their experiences and passion with students, and provide an insight into their jobs in camps focused on topics ranging from engineering to environmental sciences. Our connection with the BPS Career Academy introduces students to a variety of study areas and careers.
