Summer at Preschool Discovery Hour: Music, Theater, and Bubbles

Summer at Preschool Discovery Hour was full of curious minds, hands-on exploration, and plenty of STEM fun! From the science of sound and music to the creativity of theater and the exciting science of bubbles, each month gave our youngest learners a new way to explore and discover.

June: Little Composers Lab

In June, Little Composers Lab, in partnership with Eckroth Music, introduced preschoolers to the science of sound and music. Children explored how sounds can be loud or quiet, how patterns and beats help create music, and how different instruments produce different sounds.

""

Preschoolers got to:

  • Experiment with loud and quiet sounds
  • Move to different beats and patterns
  • Create their own “music inventions”
  • Explore real musical instruments
  • Bring stories to life with sound effects

Through movement, listening, and experimentation, preschoolers discovered that music can be both creative and scientific.

July: Science of the Stage

In July, Science of the Stage, in partnership with Shade Tree Players, brought STEM and theater together! Preschoolers explored the different ways science, math, storytelling, and engineering come together behind the scenes.

""

Young learners explored:

  • Ticket Math to practice counting and problem-solving
  • Storytelling through sequencing
  • Magnets with a magnetic theater
  • Engineering emotion puppets
  • The science and creativity behind the stage

The activities gave preschoolers a chance to explore how a performance comes together while using creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on STEM skills.

August: Bubbleology

August brought Bubbleology, where preschoolers popped into the science of bubbles through hands-on experiments, exploration, and plenty of bubbly fun! They investigated what makes bubbles work and experimented with different ways to create them.

""

Throughout the program, preschoolers had opportunities to:

  • Make bubbles in different ways
  • Test different ideas
  • Make predictions and observe what happens
  • Explore the science behind bubbles

Bubble science gave our youngest learners a fun way to experiment, make observations, and see the results of their ideas right away.

From music and theater to bubbles, each month brought a new theme designed to help our youngest scientists learn, create, explore, and discover through play. We’re looking forward to seeing what they discover next!
