ACM’s Worldwide Day of Play is coming to North Dakota’s Gateway to Science on Saturday, September 26, with an afternoon of games, coding, and hands-on exploration for the whole family.

From giant versions of classic games to programming robots across a map of North Dakota, visitors can try something new while exploring the science center’s regular exhibits.

What to Expect

Giant Yard Games

Head outside to the Outdoor Explorium for oversized versions of favorite games, including Yahtzee, Guess Who, Chess, Checkers, and Jenga.

Make a Rock Pollinator

Create your own colorful pollinator using rocks, pipe cleaners, paint, and foam. This activity will take place outside near the Education Wing.

Build with Rig-a-ma-jigs

Put your building skills to work with Gateway’s collection of Rig-a-ma-jigs. Experiment with different materials and see what you can create.

Program Dash Robots

Use coding and robotics to guide Dash robots across a map of North Dakota. Plan a route, program the robot, and see where it takes you.

“Play is an important part of how we learn, experiment, and make sense of the world around us,” said Annie Beck, STEM Educator at North Dakota’s Gateway to Science. “Worldwide Day of Play is a great opportunity to step away from the ordinary and give families new ways to explore science and technology together.”

Along with the special activities, visitors can explore the hands-on exhibits throughout Gateway to Science.
