Coming Soon to the Gallery: Take Flight at Gateway to Science!

We’ve got exciting news to share—North Dakota’s Gateway to Science is about to take off! Thanks to a new grant award from the North Dakota Space Grant Consortium, we’re adding a hands-on flight simulator exhibit to our gallery.

That means kids—and grown-ups—can climb into the pilot’s seat and explore the science of aviation like never before. Whether your child dreams of becoming a pilot, engineer, or astronaut, this new experience brings the wonder of flight to life right here in Bismarck.

The new flight simulator will be open to the public starting July 3, just in time for summer adventures!

The simulator is part of our larger aeronautics initiative, which includes our Gateway to Science on the Go (GTS on the Go) programs. For the past few years, we’ve been bringing hands-on aviation activities to schools across North Dakota, especially in rural and tribal communities. Now, visitors to our science center will get to explore those same ideas with a brand-new interactive exhibit, available all year long.

This project also connects to NASA’s mission to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. The simulator will use real STEM curriculum and encourage kids to build 21st century skills like problem solving, teamwork, and critical thinking.

We’re working with partners at UND Aerospace, Bismarck Public Schools, and others to make sure the exhibit is both educational and exciting. The simulator will be installed this summer, and it’s just one more reason to visit Gateway to Science with your family.

Ready for takeoff? Mark your calendars for July 3 and be among the first to experience flight like never before!
