On Tuesday, September 23, we welcomed NorDak Sauna Co. to Gateway to Science for a one-of-a-kind adult event that brought together relaxation, wellness, and community. Guests explored the science of heat and cold therapy while trying something new.
Learning from the Experts
Dr. Tara Harding of Simply You Wellness led the evening with insights into how heat and cold exposure affect the body—boosting circulation, reducing stress, and promoting recovery. She also shared some fun facts about sauna culture in Finland (they even have saunas in fast-food restaurants!).
Hands-On Exploration, Gateway Style
Of course, we couldn’t resist adding a little science to the mix. Guests used tools doctors use every day to measure heart rate, oxygen levels, and body temperature before, during, and after their sauna and cold plunge sessions. Many were surprised at how relaxed they felt—and how manageable the cold plunge turned out to be.
A Night to Unwind and Explore
Between the rising steam, the chill of the plunge, and the hum of conversation, the night reminded us that science isn’t just something to study—it’s something to experience. Guests walked away with a deeper understanding of how our bodies respond to the world around us.
